“I cut holes in the wall at the back of studio and put in a bunch of windows I found and a door that I covered in cedar planks and varnished heavy. Insulated the wall and covered it with tongue groove from Elwood Moore’s house at the top of Bethel Hill. You look out the windows and see the old trees reaching to heaven and the mamosa, the last to flower in the spring, surrounded by tall oaks forming a circle of light. It feels holy. Coffee in hand I walk down the hill from the studio onto the dock and stare at the lake.”
